Wichmann trucks are on the road every day in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. Competition in the triangle of countries is fierce. Wichmann Managing Director Bernd Specht must therefore constantly keep an eye on the efficiency and profitability of his fleet. The new aluminium rims from SPEEDLINE TRUCK are a building block to greater efficiency on the road for Wichmann. The brand has been listed with tyre wholesaler Bohnenkamp since the summer of this year. Their forged high-tech rims in the Mirror and Diamond surface finishes not only offer added aesthetic value, but above all, tangible economic benefits.
The higher payload of alloy wheels adds up to hundreds of tonnes per year
"The SPEEDLINE TRUCK aluminium rims save us 15 to 20 kilograms in weight per vehicle and rim compared to conventional steel rims," explains Bernd Specht. "That doesn't sound like much at first, but if you calculate that across our entire fleet, it adds up to huge savings." Over the year, significantly more tonnage can be transported per silo or dumper. This additional payload increases efficiency and significantly reduces costs.
Another effect of high-gloss truck alloy wheels is often underestimated – the positive effect of a well-maintained and good-looking vehicle. After a quick wash, the easy-care rims look like new again – and the shiny appearance of the trucks is not only impressive in customer interactions, it also contributes to employee satisfaction, as Managing Director Bernd Specht emphasises: "Clean, well-maintained vehicles motivate our drivers and also help us to find and retain qualified staff."
Andreas Abeln, Bohnenkamp Area Manager for the North-West region, and Mark Sobiech, Key Account Management OEM - Truck & Trailer, paved the way for Wichmann Transporte's decision to choose the SPEEDLINE TRUCK brand. At Bohnenkamp, they both look after customers from the logistics sector and keep the freight forwarder's success story in mind: "The implementation of SPEEDLINE TRUCK aluminium wheels at Wichmann is an impressive demonstration of how the right products and materials can make bulk goods logistics more efficient," concludes Sobiech.
Windpower tyres for tight turns
In the truck and transport range of Bohnenkamp SE, Specht, the logistics company, also struck oil when looking for a solution to a challenge in the field of silo transport. The haulage company is one of the few that uses short silo trailers. The advantage: they can also travel to destinations for loading and unloading that would be impossible to reach with long trailers. In narrow corners and winding farmyards, Wichmann drivers also have to master tricky turning manoeuvres where every centimetre counts. In tight bends, the trailer is almost turned on the spot – an ordeal for any tyres. In addition, with short silage trailers, the tractor unit's fifth wheel plate is pushed extremely far back, causing the load weight to rest fully on the three axles of the semi-trailer. "Our tyres not only have to withstand extreme rotations, they also must offer strong protection against cut damage," explains Wichmann Managing Director Bernd Specht.
Bernd Specht has found the right tyres for such manoeuvres at Bohnenkamp. He orders Windpower W series tyres for his short silo vehicles and they perform really well. Where other tyres reach their limits, the W series shows its strengths in demanding regional and long-distance transport situations. The treads are characterised by their outstanding wear resistance, even under the toughest conditions, and offer exceptional durability. Its reinforced carcass can also provide sufficient resistance to greater shear forces – exactly what Wichmann needs.
WGC08 and WGC28 - the Windpower truck profiles in use at Wichmann
Bernd Specht relies on the WGC08 and WGC28 treads for his silo vehicles. The WGC08 is suitable for mixed application scenarios. It stands out for its reduced heat generation and overcomes challenging surfaces with a rugged tyre shoulder. Overall, the all-position tyre impresses with its high resistance even under tough conditions and in terms of sustainable principles: its carcass is retreadable. The WGC28 is a genuine construction site tyre of the latest generation. Its strong, hexagonally structured tread provides excellent traction, even on difficult terrain. Designed as a tread for all-wheel drive vehicles in on- and off-road use, the WGC28 resembles a drive tyre and cuts a fine figure on all axle positions – not least thanks to its reinforced carcass to protect against cut damage and tread separation, as well as its excellent self-cleaning properties.
Optimally positioned for everyday demands and the future
With their outstanding properties, both treads are still a firm favourite with Managing Director Specht, even after tens of thousands of kilometres – much to the delight of Key Account Manager Mark Sobiech: "With the W series, Windpower has proven itself as a manufacturer and partner that not only understands the challenges in the transport sector but also actively supports the industry with high-quality products."
With the combination of the high-performance Windpower tyres and the lightweight, efficient SPEEDLINE TRUCK aluminium wheels, Wichmann Transporte is optimally equipped for the specific challenges of silo and bulk goods transport. Both products not only offer outstanding durability and resistance, they also ensure economic efficiency. Whether for tight turning manoeuvres or tough everyday operations – with the right tyres, wheels and rims on the vehicles, the fleet is future-proof and competitively equipped to successfully master the daily demands of the transport business.
